Our Story
To begin with, the massive 13 acres of land you see was once an abandoned clay mining site that was infertile. So, Sri Lanka’s first fully eco-friendly hospitality property (resort) was built. This is also the world’s first resort where a man-made lake is the source of water and home to freshwater fish and prawns.
Most of the greenery by each abode is cultivated on a floating greenhouse rather than on land. Bolagala Floating Resort is a place where modern ingenuity meets mother nature and local culture offering guests the most unique experiences imaginable.
Imagine walking into a sanctuary dedicated solely to nature. Look around and the soothing shades of green will be the first most alluring feature of our resort to get you walking further inside. The trees you’ll see on either side as you begin to walk or drive in are special medicinal species of flora that are nearing extinction in Sri Lankan forests – but our guests have the luxury of observing them instantly upon arrival.
What catches the eye right after are roofs covered in Passion fruit vines and walls covered by Vanilla vines – the sight is sure to awaken the nature lover within any city dweller’s heart! Walk beyond the lobby and across the deck and there awaits your homely floating abode…ah yes…if only you could live here forever.
Our floating cabanas, greenhouses, restaurants, and pretty much everything you see are powered using solar energy. But this is just one half of our property, on the other half is a bird sanctuary and farm where animals roam free within the premises. Our parking lot by the sanctuary also consists of a tennis court which can be converted to a helipad if you plan on arriving via helicopter!
For family entertainment, we are introducing Sri Lanka’s very first floating theme park as well where guests will find a 60 ft. tall artificial waterfall, a plethora of water sports, and an artificial beach too! The possibilities at our resort are endless, you simply must visit for a unique Sri Lankan experience where you become one with nature!
